Alternative Education
The law in Spain states that children between the ages of 6 and 16 must have access to education and follow a learning study program. Most families chose public or private schools to educate their children. When parents opt for homeschooling, they must follow a study program and provide evidence of the learning made if required by the law.
ISLA is not a school, we are much more than that!
By being an Academy, ISLA has the freedom to create what we believe is an enriching learning experience for all our students; combining values, academic knowledge and lifelong skills. We have designed an entire academic content based on the British curriculum where children can reach their learning goals whilst acquiring life skills in a respectful and nurturing environment.
ISLA is formally considered an alternative model of professionally organized education. This means we offer Spanish and foreign students in Mallorca a full academic program of study through a finely detailed curriculum. Together with qualified specialist teachers, we ensure that the learning objectives are being met and evaluated regularly.
Academic content will be made accessible for all students through our Online platform Wonderminds in September 2024.
ISLA will conduct internal evaluations for all subjects on a termly basis and students will be examined for the subjects of English and Maths at the end of each academic year. Other subjects will be assessed through assignments and project work. Children preparing for their IGCSE’s in Year 10 and 11 will be examined in a Cambridge examination centre where they will sit their official IGCSE’s.
IGCSE examinations and transportation costs will need to be paid separately.
