ISLA Campus

Outdoor learning and sports for 7-18 year olds

ISLA Campus is a learning environment where children combine academic support, outdoor experiences and movement in a way that reflects their individual path. Rather than separating learning from wellbeing, we believe both are essential parts of healthy development. ISLA offers learners different experiences that encourage curiosity, confidence, independence and a lifelong love for learning.

Outdoor experiences

A large part of Campus life happens outside. Children explore the land, notice plants and wildlife, grow food, build, make things and work together on practical challenges.

What we do changes with the season, the weather and the group. Activities might include gardening, nature observation, environmental projects, simple construction, working with natural or recycled materials, orientation, bushcraft and other age-appropriate outdoor skills.

Sometimes an activity starts with something simple: a problem to solve, something found outside or an idea from one of the participants. From there it can turn into building, investigating, designing or making something together.

Movement, sports and wellbeing

Movement is part of everyday life at the Campus.

Participants take part in a mix of sports, physical activities and team challenges. Depending on the group, this may include football, basketball, climbing, athletics, racket and ball sports, fitness, obstacle courses, movement games and other activities.

The focus is not only on performance. We want young people to enjoy being active, learn to work with others and find the right level of challenge for themselves.

Horses and animal care

Horses and ponies are a familiar part of life at ISLA Campus. Children can gradually become involved in grooming, feeding, stable routines, groundwork and pony games, always at a level that suits their age and experience.

Caring for animals gives children real responsibilities and asks for patience, attention and respect for another living being.

Practical projects and creativity

Projects at ISLA often grow out of what is happening around us. They can be connected to nature, animals, sport, sustainability, food, art or something that could be improved or created at the Campus.

A group might design an outdoor game, build with natural materials, organise a small sports activity, improve part of the garden, make a habitat for wildlife or explore a question that came up during the day.

There is no fixed project list that everyone has to complete. Activities develop around the possibilities of the Campus and the interests and ages of the group.

English and Spanish in everyday life

ISLA is an international and multilingual community. English and Spanish are heard throughout the day: during sports, animal care, projects, meals, games and ordinary conversations.

This gives children many chances to use language in real situations, without turning every interaction into a language lesson. It can be especially helpful for young people who have recently moved to Mallorca and are still finding their feet in a new language and social environment.

Growing independence

What children need from the Campus changes as they grow. Younger participants usually need more structure and guidance. Teenagers can have more say in what they do, take responsibility for parts of a project and contribute their own ideas.

Older participants may sometimes help with a group task or share something they are good at, always with staff responsible for the activity. The aim is to give young people more ownership as they become ready for it.

From our garden to the world

Food at the Campus is provided in collaboration with Plate of Ubuntu.

Children can help plant, look after and harvest seasonal vegetables, fruit and herbs in our Campus garden. Whenever possible, what we grow together finds its way into lunch.

Plate of Ubuntu also brings in chefs, ingredients, flavours and food traditions from different parts of the world. Children are encouraged to be curious, taste new things and enjoy food together, without pressure to like everything.

It creates a simple connection between what grows in the garden, what arrives on the table and the many different ways people prepare and share food.

A community where people know each other

One of the things we value about ISLA is that it is small enough for people to know each other. The team gets to know the children, their interests and the things they may need help or encouragement with.

We stay in regular, informal contact with families. Many participants are new to Mallorca, travel regularly or combine ISLA with online learning or education elsewhere. The Campus gives them a place to make friends, join in and feel part of a community.

Flexible participation

Families can choose one or more days per week. Membership is normally booked for a minimum of one month, and children and young people can join during the year when places are available.

There is no compulsory daily attendance. Activities vary with the season, weather, group and specialist programme.

Academic Support

For children aged 7 to 10, families can choose to add academic support alongside their Campus participation. This may include reading, English, Spanish, mathematics, planning or work selected by the family or an external learning provider. The support is adapted to the child and organised in small groups.

For young people aged 11 to 17, academic support is provided at ISLA Urban.

A place to be active, try things, make friends and grow in your own way.

ISLA Campus offers outdoor, sports, leisure and complementary activities. It is a non-formal leisure programme and does not replace the responsibility of families to meet any compulsory-education requirements that apply to their child. Academic support is arranged separately as described above.
