What if our family travels?

If students travel they can continue their academic studies remotely. Learning objectives are set with subject tutors or teachers. For primary students work will be prepared according their needs. For secondary: they can continue their academic planning and distance learning via a virtual classroom facility will be available whilst students are travelling.

What if my child doesn’t know what they like?

If a student already knows their interests, that’s great! If not, we provide guidance and expertise on which subjects align with different university and career paths. Due to regular mentor reviews throughout the course, students have the flexibility of realigning their subjects, extending the exam or end date to suit their personal needs.

What if my child has high abilities or learning difficulties?

Our system caters to almost all students’ abilities, allowing them to learn at their own pace. Students can slow down or accelerate as needed. In upper secondary they may also take extra subjects or receive additional support.

What life skills are taught?

We believe that to become a well-rounded, emotionally stable adult, education should go beyond academics. At ISLA, we focus on applying learning to real-life situations, outdoor skills, sportsmanship, social skills, and critical thinking.

Primary at ISLA
How are the classes organised?

Primary at ISLA is for children aged 3 to 10 (from Early Years through to Year 6). Classes are organised by age, but for core subjects such as English, Spanish and Maths, children are grouped by ability. These groupings are reviewed and adjusted regularly.

What characterises the education at ISLA?

We combine an international, British-based curriculum with a strong focus on personal development, outdoor learning and life skills. Every child follows an individual learning plan tailored to their level, interests and learning style. Children spend at least half of their day outside: in lessons, sports or free play.

How do you select your teachers?

We select open-minded and positive teachers who bring creativity, expertise, and a strong awareness of inclusion and diversity to ISLA.

In addition to their class teacher, children are taught by subject specialists. English and Spanish are taught by native speakers, ensuring high-quality, multilingual education.

How does ISLA support different learning needs?

We offer differentiated instruction and tailor teaching in each subject to the child’s level. Additional support is available through our learning support team, which includes a remedial teacher and an educational psychologist. If a child needs extra support or greater academic challenge, we create a personalised plan in close collaboration with parents and review it regularly.

What does a typical school day look like for Primary pupils?

The school day runs from 9:00 to 15:15. Days are varied, with a balance of academic subjects, project-based learning, movement, creativity and time in nature. Being outdoors is an integral part of the daily rhythm: children spend at least half of their school day outside.

Secondary at ISLA / MTA
Who will my child be in class with?

Students are assigned to subject specialists on a lesson-by-lesson basis. This means they will be in class with other students working on the same or similar subjects. In lower secondary students will be grouped as will IGCSE and A level students. Classmates may vary in age and level. During project work, sports, and field trips, students are grouped by age.

How does ISLA Academy provide a larger social environment?

We organise monthly field trips based on students’ interests, such as science, languages, humanities or arts. These trips are optional and open to ISLA/MTA students as well as students from other secondary schools, both local and international, across the island.

Will my child only work online?

No, some assignments are done online and some are done in writing. All study hours are based in house, with dedicated tutors. A curriculum overview is followed, and assignments are submitted via the online platform, but day to day study is face to face.

Are the education and exams recognised?

All exams are governed by either Cambridge Exam Board or Pearson EDEXCEL and therefore are internationally recognised. Although each country, university or field of study will have specific requirements students use Cambridge and Pearson International AS & A Levels to gain places at leading universities worldwide including the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain. MTA has our own inhouse university adviser who can guide and support all applications and next steps on a 1:1 basis.

What is the Mallorca Tutoring Academy (MTA)?

MTA has 15 years experience in innovative, highly personalised blended learning, tutoring and revision support. It combines the renowned online Wolsey Hall programme with live tutoring from passionate, qualified teachers and experts. Students and alumni highly rate MTA with many (re)discovering their love for learning.

We take academics seriously, particularly in core subjects such as English, Spanish, Mathematics, and Science. Our curriculum ensures that students develop a strong foundation in these areas using evidence-based teaching methods.
