Primary Years

ISLA offers a distinctive educational experience combining academic excellence with free learning. We provide a British curriculum for children aged 3 to 11.

Academics

Core Subjects. At ISLA we are very serious about the core subjects. The curriculum is organised into learning objectives and organised across the academic year for core subjects: English, Spanish, Maths and Science.

Foundation Subjects. History, Art & Design, PSHE and Geography are organised into project work and taught throughout the year.

Life Skills

We consider essential that children receive a set of life skills beyond those taught in academic subjects. For this reason, we are regularly including additional subjects to the learning programme such as Bushcrafting, Gardening, Painting, Constructing, Nutrition, Mindfulness, Business economics and Critical thinking, enriching the learning experience for our students.

Our approuch

Want to know HOW we do it? At ISLA we use a cross-curricular approach to learning, connecting purpose to skills. In doing this, we encourage independent learners, critical thinkers and team players. We make mental health and physical well-being our top priority. At ISLA we offer alternative education.

The way we do it

Education at ISLA is based on these three principals:

Daily Sports & Outdoor activities

We teach sports and outdoor activities on a daily basis. We believe that learning starts outside and that it extends beyond the classroom. Every day, our students spend much time outdoors, with daily sports, nature exploration or environmental studies. We also work with the horses that live on our campus. This daily outdoor learning promotes physical health, sportsmanship, an appreciation for the natural world and mental well-being; a key priority at ISLA.

Strong Academics in Core Subjects

We take academics seriously, particularly in the core subjects English, Spanish, mathematics, and science. Our curriculum ensures that students develop a strong academic foundation in these areas using evidence-based teaching methods.

We offer the British curriculum and monitor the academic development of all of our students by creating student development plans (SDP) for each student, ensuring that children with high abilities, special educational needs, or those who have never received formal education are fully supported. By working closely with parents, we ensure that every child receives the right guidance to progress at their own pace and on their own goals.

Project-Based Learning for Foundational Subjects

For foundational subjects, we emphasise learning through projects on themes. This approach allows students to explore topics and themes in depth, make meaningful connections across subjects, developing essential skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. We believe in learning with purpose, we connect the academic theory to more practical use via projects and application skills, for example in the garden, the kitchen, in group activities or at sports.
